Paraoptometric Technician
6 month Program
Paraoptometric technicians (assistants) work with eye care professionals to provide patient care by performing eye-related clinical tasks. The ophthalmic technician – assistant – plays an important role in helping the eye doctor detect, treat, and prevent disorders that may affect vision. The ophthalmic medical technician can initiate patient exams, measure and record visual stats, perform diagnostic procedures, assist in clinical and surgical settings, etc.
Program’s Outline
The Ophthalmic Technician Course provided by Compton Eye Associates in association with the Renaissance Technical Institute is designed to implement an ophthalmic education along with a clinical skill set that will hopefully inspire you to be successful in this course and in your future endeavors.
Our goal is to promote critical thinking and to employ these skills while understanding foundational concepts in eye care. Upon course completion, you can expect to have a better understanding of the eye care profession and be able to use the skills taught to perform technician duties.
As a student in the Ophthalmic Technician Training Program, you can expect to learn about a myriad of topics in eye care. These topics range from: ocular diseases, components of a clinical eye exam, optics, pharmacology, patient interaction and much more. We aim to train eager students who are excited to enter a very rewarding profession and hope to promote the importance of eye health!
